Hi, I’m Sakara!

I grew up surrounded by the wooded brilliance of West Greenwich, Rhode Island so trees have always sparked a certain kind of magic in my creative soul. When I see light moving between the branches, a painting awakes and the watercolors and inks begin to flow. My current artistic process began as a daily meditation in my sketchbook and once I'd done that every day for over one hundred days it became my preferred method of working. I combine watercolor washes with brushwork and dip pen & ink to illustrate the natural world around me. Each piece is embedded with a memory or emotion for me and my favorite part is when the viewer connects to it with their own nostalgia. Sharing nature's beauty with the world reminds me that we can all find common ground and connection no matter our differences.
